The Internet is a worldwide, publicly accessible network of interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching using the standard Internet Protocol (IP). It is a “network of networks” that consists of millions of smaller domestic, academic, business, and government networks, which together carry various information and services, such as electronic mail online chat, file transfer, and the interlinked Web pages and other documents of the World Wide Web.

Internet users spend almost half their time online reading and watching content, dwarfing the time spent searching for information, communicating with others and buying products. Although, many people still think e-mail and World Wide Web as the principle constituents of internet, there is lot more in store than e-mail, chat rooms, celebrity web sites and search engines. It also became the best business tool of modern scenario. Today, internet has brought a globe in a single room. Right from news across the corner of the world, wealth of knowledge to shopping, purchasing the tickets of your favorite movie, booking and paying online for a plane ticket-everything is at your finger tips. Internet has great potential and lot to offer… however, like every single innovation in science and technology, internet has its own advantages and disadvantages.

The Internet has become a kingdom of its own. It is not just a medium through which the people around this world connect and communicate with each other, trade, entertain, interact and inform. No one owns the Internet Kingdom. It belongs to and is totally ruled by a theoretical yet actual idea – content. Content is king on the Internet. Content is what users are after and is what attracts millions of people day and night to their computers, just to seek information, friends, entertainment, not to mention buying and selling online.

Internet is just one medium of advertising and delivering information. There are also other print mediums such as newspapers and magazines, though there is a major difference between the content of these mediums. But because of the Internet, newspapers and magazines can now be made as dynamic and as interactive as they can be. Print magazines can not just simply transfer what is already written in the pages. Content does not mainly focus on the text. For the magazine to be successful on the Internet, it is essential to look for a different layout for a medium that is capable of supporting audio and video players to add interest to users or viewers.

According to the study, users in 2003 spent 46% of their time online communicating; now they spend 47% of their time viewing content. The share of time spent using e-mail or instant messaging tools has dropped 28% over the last four years, while the time spent on e-commerce activities is down 5% over the same period. Users spend about 5% of their time online searching for data.

The growing popularity of social networking sites with a heavy focus on content is helping to drive the shift toward spending more time with content. Other factors behind the changes include the following:

  • A faster Internet.
  • The increased popularity of online video.
  • Improvements in search tools, which are helping users find content more easily.
  • The large increase of the amount of content on the Web.
  • The increased use of instant messaging, which has led to a reduction in the time spent on communication activities.

Internet marketing, also referred to as online marketing or Emarketing is marketing that uses the Internet. The Internet has brought many unique benefits to marketing that include very low costs in distributing information and media to a global audience. However, the interactive nature of the media, both in terms of instant response, and in eliciting response at all, are both desirable qualities of internet marketing.

Internet marketing ties together both the creative and technical aspects of the internet, including design, development, advertising and sales. Internet marketing methods include search engine marketing, display advertising, e-mail marketing, affiliate marketing, interactive advertising and viral marketing.

Over time, ecommerce sales have continued to grow as more and more consumers turn to the internet for their shopping. And there’s no question about that. As a consumer, one would really take the easiest way to shop and internet has done it. It’s much easier to take a quick commute to your computer, surf the net for a short while, and purchase what you are looking for than it is to go out to a store for just the same thing. Because of this, the future ecommerce sales is looking so bright.

As the Internet becomes an important marketing tool, various organizations are hiring an internet marketing company or search engine optimization company in order to help increase their online publicity. It helps increase the value of the organizations’ websites and improve their bottom lines. It helps both big businesses and small businesses profit from the web. Unfortunately, there are many errors that those same organizations often make that harm the efforts of the search engine optimization company that they have chosen to work with. It is vital to make yourselves aware of these errors.

Among the two most popular methods a company can use for online marketing are organic search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising – and these are often used in tandem. However, when a business has a limited marketing budget, it is vital to put into consideration which approach has the advantage and which offers a better return on investment. While pay-per-click can offer immediate results, organic search engine optimization may lead to more clicks.

But whatever it is that makes internet marketing beneficial to business, keep in mind that internet marketing companies have the same goal and that is to increase the amount of visitors to an organization’s website by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a website ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that the site will be visited by a user. We can not deny the fact that it is a common practice for Internet users to not click through pages and pages of search results, so where a site ranks in a search is essential for directing more traffic toward the site. It is also their goal to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and to improve the chances that the site will be found by the search engine.
